Adding if(process.browser) navigator.serviceWorker.register('/sw.js') at the end of _document.js makes it work. That's probably not the best way to solve it
from next-pwa.

Ok I'm closing this. First time I tried the example it didn't work until I added what's in my previous comment. But I gave it a second try and it worked.
I fixed my project by moving next.config.js to the root, it was inside /src because that is the root of the react project but I maybe there's something failing if the CWD is different from the config file.
