Which version of Visual Studio? If you aren't running VS2010 checkout this post nodejs/node-gyp#44
We may need to look into providing a pre-compiled binary for Windows.

I'm using 2010. Pre-compiled would be amazing! If I compile this in visual studio, it's not going to wrap some .net dependencies around it, right?

Nope, all native, no .NET stuff will get compiled in. Can you try running "node-gyp configure build" from the serialport directory and see if that solves the issue.

Running that clued me into the problem: node-gyp doesn't support python >=3.0.0
Installing 2.7 fixed my problem. Thanks!
