I don't think it's a systematic solution to have image versions of different formats than the original image. What's systematic is to have the original image in the right format. You can solve that by writing a custom action that converts an image to a different format -- see http://readthedocs.org/docs/django-filebrowser/en/latest/actions.html on how to write a custom action.
