Thank you for your feedback Vincent, we appreciate it a lot.
We do plan to change the script so that it can be used by technical and non-technical people alike, i.e. use either arguments or the config file, but for now, the decision to stick with a config file is purely to enable non-technical people to have an easier time in configuring the script and running it.
1&3. We've noticed that the majority of our users do not alter the config files and use the default ones that are recommended by Sitecore. So, that's why we keep them zipped so that people only make changes to it if they have an advanced understanding of the configs and intend to make changes.
2. Our end goal would be to not ask for any parameter regarding the names and the script should directly figure out names and the aliases using ShowConfig.aspx. But for now, we have added a feature that lets you upload 1 config per collection so that there is 1:1 mapping between the configs and collections.
4. We just came out with support for Commerce and XDB. Yay! SXA is still in the pipeline.
5. Good documentation is always welcomed. We'll be making an additional effort to make that happen and we urge all of our contributors to help in this effort as well.
6. That's an excellent suggestion, Vincent, we'll add that to our pipeline.
