bug: cannot import ES modules about examples HOT 3 CLOSED

That said, this is not a bug in the examples I can say that much. The examples are configured for CJS, not ESM. If you want to use ESM then you should:

1. Add "moduleResolution": "node16" to the tsconfig.json compilerOptions
2. Change "type": "commonjs", in package.json to "type": "module",
3. Add extensions to all the relative imports, i.e. in setups change import { srcDir } from './constants'; to import { srcDir } from './constants.js';

And if you don't want to use ESM then you don't need to have the const __dirname = dirname(fileURLToPath(import.meta.url)); line that lowdb has in their example.

I'm opening this issue in the examples because these examples are used as templates for the cli.

But it should work with esModuleInterop set to true as I said in the stack overflow question.

It works making the project a module. But I still don't know why with the esModuleInterop is enabled is not allowing to import ES modules.

esModuleInterop is completely unrelated to importing ES modules. In fact, it's to make CommonJS libraries work better. But even then it's entirely unrelated to your issue.
