Do not do what that issue says, it will only cause you a lot of problems ;)

You want to be on the latest version of the gem. To do that make sure your Gemfile says:

gem "acts_as_votable", "~> 0.3.1"

As far as your specific problem, you are trying to cast a vote on an Enumerator object and not the actual post object.

Instead, your rails code should read:

@post = Post.find(1)
@user = User.find(1)
@post.liked_by @user
