I couldn't find anything about supporting existing or being added, but on closer inspection, it may already be supported via libsolv.
If that is confirmed then I can close this, although maybe it would be useful to have some tests around it.

Yes, this is already supported.
We do even have a CI test https://github.com/rpm-software-management/ci-dnf-stack/blob/master/dnf-behave-tests/dnf/repodata-compression.feature with static repodata (not generated by createrepo_c): https://github.com/rpm-software-management/ci-dnf-stack/tree/master/dnf-behave-tests/fixtures/repos-static/zstd-compressed-repodata/repodata
The plan was (well it still is but somewhat delayed) to add zstd support to createrepo_c and then update the test.
