followed the standard remove instructions to remove it.
Not sure why uninstalling the app using the app provided uninstaller won't remove icon.

Delete the icon by holding mouse click, or highlighting icon and pressing delete or command delete (see the link in my previous post). The icon is removable, it's just being left behind inappropriately after following the uninstall instructions. I hadn't been using Mac for more than a few months when I ran into the issue so it took some playing around to figure it out.
You can also remove apps and icons via the terminal with caution. Here's a link with methods for Mac: http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/174084/how-to-remove-chrome-app-icons-from-launchpad
Note: replace chrome with your apps name in query.
