Also, since the svn checkout is in a separate command, fixing this typo won't save any space -- they need to be combined into a single RUN statement.

The "minimal size" Docker R-Devel is container is in this repo so you were kinda looking at the wrong Dockerfile.
The rm you pointed out is a null-op anyway as there are several distinct RUN commands.
Anway -- committed a fix in a6df58f, maybe we will bring the 'drd' repo in here -- to be discussed.

BTW for drd this worked out ok as I may have mentioned earlier:
