@vishal-h - the correct answer is on StackOverflow now. The sortable binding operates on observableArrays, so you need to pass the observableArray (children instead of children()).

I might think about throwing a clear error, if the array is not observable.

Thanks. It worked fine after the change. But is it a good practice to add an observable / observableArray in the model like I have done?

Yes, if you want your UI to react to changes, then using an observable/observableArray is a good choice in this case.
