If we decide to fully move over to Fedora 26, then this will become a non-issue since Fedora 26 has a native night shift mode built in that works wonderfully.

Even a link back to the http://jonls.dk/redshift/ listed in the .service comments section would be good OR the github repo for it: https://github.com/jonls/redshift .

@linux-modder we did not create the service file. I am guessing it came in from the package. We can definitely add something to our docs about the options. I am also going to verify that we have the gui being installed and accessible.

Redshift is definitely pretty wonky to get going sometimes even when using the GUI.

@linux-modder @Tjzabel I have no idea where redshift is coming from unless it is in one of the groups in the ks. it is not being installed on it's own in the list.

Given this, I think it would make sense to use the upstream GNOME night shift mode. If a user later decides to use something other than GNOME, then they can probably figure out Redshift pretty easily (I think the current issue is a GNOME vs. Wayland one?).

@jflory7 yeah, Redshift doesn't work on Gnome. Furthermore, I just checked, and there is no Night LIght mode on Fedora 26 using Cinnamon Desktop, which is what TigerOS uses, so not sure what to do then.

Oh, d'oh, right, I knew that. But isn't Cinnamon running on Xorg? I wonder why Redshift is broken then. Admittedly, I haven't had a chance to build and test the OS yet, but I'm hoping to do this early in the semester to get a feel for what's going on.
If we can use an upstream feature, it makes sense, but changing DEs is probably a pretty big decision (it makes more sense to build on what we have already to me). I'll leave the decision-making to you all on this. 👍

this may be resolved depending on the outcome of #41

@axk4545 yep, if gnome ends up becoming the default DE, then Fedora 26's night light mode will take care of this issue.
from tigeros.
Since we have switched to Gnome, we can close this issue. Thoughts? GNOME3 uses nightlight mode which renders Redshift useless here.

@Tjzabel Did this get put in the build I made, and if not what packages need to be added?
from tigeros.
@Tjzabel Moot point. Please remind me to remove redshift from the package list. And then close the issue
from tigeros.
Redshift is removed.
