[c++] loop() returning wrong status after sorted_search() completes about hyperdex HOT 2 CLOSED

The &status pointer arg in your sorted_search call should be separate from the &status pointer in your loop call. Maybe name the latter &l_status (for loop status). It's the &status in the sorted_search call that will eventually be updated to HYPERCLIENT_SEARCHDONE. The separate &l_status in the loop call will be updated with command "pendingness" information. So each call to loop does two separate things. It updates the &status pointer in your original sorted_search call and it also updates its own &l_status arg with a separate value like HYPERCLIENT_NONEPENDING -- when there are no more pending commands in the client.
