Do you have autoconf-archive installed? It's packaged on Ubuntu by that name, or you can download Autoconf Archive

Additionally, the output of autoreconf -i is controlled by the Autoconf project and is not set by the HyperDex team.

It could be wrapped such that if it fails (I'm sure it returns non-zero), it's noted that you need autoconf-archive. Thanks for the heads up. I'm trying to build it on OS X.

That's an idea. It reminds me of the "autogen.sh" from the old days of autoconf.

Here's some things to keep in mind for OS X:

  • BusyBee relies upon edge-triggered epoll. Porting to kqueue is possible, but I cannot merge the patch until I can reliably test on Mac OS X (either via a build bot or shell).
  • po6 and libe should "just install" on OS X
  • HyperDex itself probably doesn't have any Linux-specific parts. If you find one while working on OS X, I'll be happy to help change it.

+1 for autogen.sh, it's your baby, but I know that I prefer it when there's a autotools script with cogent error messaging for that sort of thing.

I'm guessing ifdef up-the-wazoo for managing epoll vs. kqueue?

I'd recommend abstracting out the event handling. Off the top of my head, we've got:

  • wait for event
  • add fd with certain events
  • mod fd to certain events
  • remove fd

A single interface to these would mask epoll vs. kqueue details. The ifdef would then be part of the configure step.

That's about what I had in mind and seems to make sense.
