Remix's current streaming implementation expects Errors to be thrown from rejecting deferred promises - usually a throw from an async function. Rejecting with null causes an error because we attempt to "hydrate" back into an error via new Error(e.message); and e is null. You can fix this in your current implementation by rejecting with an Error instance.
This will also no longer be an issue with Single Fetch which improves upon the underlying streaming format.
