It is important to note that not all architectures report errors via $except
, some will only report out-of-band data.
If a socket appears in $except
, one also needs to check whether it appears in $read
and whether it is feof()
before one can reasonably determine what to do with it, and whether it represents an error condition or not.
On Windows if a packet is received with the RST
bit set or if a send operation times out, the socket will appear in $except
. I also tested this on Fedora last night, and there that is not the case - it only appears in $read
when an RST
is received (and feof()
is true), and it doesn't appear anywhere when a send operation times out, but feof()
returns true.

This will most likely result in some additions to the LoopInterface
. We need to ensure that libev and libevent support it properly.

ext-libevent
has a EV_TIMEOUT
constant that can be used for event_add
. Not sure about libev
yet.
