I agree, sidekiq would be the better approach architecture-wise. But it would be yet another dependency and possibly complicate the setup and deployment of CASinoApp.
Using cron tasks manually may be error prone if the task runs longer for 5 minutes.
We use locking to prevent multiple cleanup jobs from running in parallel, if that is what you are scared of.
