It says it's deprecated, but is it ever actually going to stop working?

I'm all for getting rid of scary deprecation warnings during the install, but the amount of numbers in your list make me wonder if it's an improvement :)

I would guess that it being deprecated would mean it will stop working "soon". I brought this up, as it seems to trip up the students as they're going through the install process.

We had a pair of students raise their hand with a "is this supposed to happen?" I didn't feel like it was a blocker or a point of confusion for the group as a whole, but as a data point, some people noticed and were concerned enough to ask.

Do the additional steps outlined do much more than change the sequence of heroku sign-up? You have to provide your user/pass with the gem anyways, and verify the version.. the additional step seems to be "go to this URL and run an installer" (which may or may not be a valid concern, I don't know.. Rails is feeling less "simple to install" every time I run through an InstallFest :) )

For now, I added some stuff to the 'Create a Heroku Account' page telling people that the deprecation warning isn't anything to be afraid of. But you make a convincing argument for changing to use this toolbelt business. 6d6f7c1

From the toolbelt.heroku.com page, it looks like this is supposed to install the heroku command as well as git and foreman. If that's the case, this might be a nice compiler free way of getting git onto systems. However I put the toolbelt on my machine and I don't see any traces of git. Does anyone have Heroku people they can contact to see what the deal is?

I've pinged Terence Lee via Twitter.

Richard Schneeman would be another good contact over there. He teaches Rails at the Univ of Texas and for RailsGirls.

I took a stab at this with 5380ac9. It may not be the greatest, because "click the download link, and install" might not be enough for a lot of people (who aren't used to installing .dmgs on their mac). Amendments are welcome.
