I think that the problem is that jekyll doesn't parse well what's inside $...$ tags.

A temporary fix is to add ...<\span> tags to inline equations and

...<\divs> elsewhere.
Someone apparently found a fix here using this trick, but I've not been able to make it work :

Ok, I found a simpler workaround :
https://kramdown.gettalong.org/syntax.html#math-blocks

  • You need two dollar signs ($$) instead of one or (\...)\ signs.
  • | pipe character messes up with kramdown. Use \vert instead.
  • Use at least one empty line before and after a math block for it to render as it should:

The following is a math block:

$$ 5 + 5 $$

The text starts again

from simply-jekyll.
