Well, the actual check is already called as part of check(), and it's not something you need to do very often, so I'd prefer to leave it out to keep the package simpler.

Sure, makes sense. I should have just done a better job of finding the tools utility -- the check message tells me to run R CMD build --resave-data, whereas obviously I'd rather just fix my data in R than create a new build archive.
