This seems to be a side effect of using nix
has control over the directory your Python environment is located in and doesn't allow a write access there. Nothing Poetry can do. My recommendation would be to either build your environments with nix
only or allow for a virtual environment creation, which would solve this issue.

Why would it need to write in the python environment? it works fine for a package from pypi without writing anything.
I think poetry should at least provide more diagnostic here, like telling the user that poetry need a venv to compute dependencies of a package from git
