This worked for me
sudo pip install pymodbus --upgrade

from pymodbus.

Well I haven't tried to install this on a Windows machine in a while as I don't actually have one handy. Do you need to reload your terminal so your environment updates maybe? Twisted appears to have installed correctly, can you import any of it?

Hi, I am not a python expert but I followed this steps to install python packages on a windows machine:
http://es.wikihow.com/instalar-paquetes-de-Python-en-Windows-7
. However i have the same problem with modbuspy. I am using python 2.7.8 and setuptools 0.6c9-py2.7.egg was installed correctly but i can't install modbuspy (setup.py). So now i am thinking about install ubuntu on vmware. Some help pls.

I am facing the same problem of importing inspite of successful installation of pymodbus

ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'pymodbus'

from pymodbus.

Benblob688 avatar Benblob688 commented on August 27, 2024

For me, the issue was that an older version of Pymodbus used the syntax:
from Pymodbus.client.sync import ModbusTcpClient
whereas now on the current version the Docs suggest that the sync has been dropped and the correct syntax is:
from Pymodbus.client import ModbusTcpClient
I had originally installed and developed code in mid-2021 using an older version of Pymodbus, and when duplicating on a new machine, a newer version of Pymodbus had this change of syntax.

Benblob688 nailed it, get rid of .sync

from pymodbus.

RabenFlug avatar RabenFlug commented on August 27, 2024

After removing the .sync, I get this:
DEBUG:growattRS232:GrowattRS232 initialized with usb port /dev/ttyUSB0 and modbus address 1. Error: TypeError("__init__() got multiple values for argument 'unit'")
Does anybody know what can cause this?

from pymodbus.

janiversen avatar janiversen commented on August 27, 2024

you are calling with unit=, change that to slave=

from pymodbus.

It is a good thing to read the documentation, upgrading to version 3, calls for some modification of your source.
