I assume you meant to say ruby 1.8.7
above - to use the build scripts you'll need to be running a version of ruby 1.9 (I use 1.9.3-p125
).
Of course, you may find it easier to just download a release or nightly build from the downloads page.

Looks like the problems in your first gist is because you have a system bundle in /usr/bin that uses the system Ruby (1.8) in your load path before 1.9.3 and it's gem bin path. You might want to remove the system bundler (funnily enough I had this very same problem on my CI machine).
For the second issue, it looks like you haven't created a config/database.yml file.
