Thank you for the bug report! These are really valuable and I hope you can keep them coming!
Although CrossHair cannot maintain a complete type illusion, I'd like the case you describe here to be supported. In fact, CrossHair should also support the non-union case as well. (with just List and Dict). We can achieve this illusion with some monkey-patching on isinstance() and issubclass().
I have just committed some fixes that do this. Let me know if it works for you? (I think you can just pip uninstall + reinstall). Finally, I am not confident that I've covered all the cases, so please let me know if you run into similar issues in the future!
