We follow http://semver.org semantics in Prometheus projects and I explicitly haven't considered haproxy_exporter to be stable enough to reach v1.0 yet.

Having to maintain two sets of command line flag libraries just to ensure backwards compatibility would have required an enormous effort neither I nor contributors to this OSS project can provide.

I also fail to see how it would solve the problem, people installing the latest release without reading the changelog would have just hit by the exact same problem in v0.9.0 after finally removing the old command line flag format.

Before a major release, it's not feasible for me to provide such guarantees. Please use versioned docker images.

Hello @grobie , I understand totally, and this is why I implemented my own workaround, as explained in the openshift issue I linked above. The openshift addon implementation should be using the versioned docker images, but unfortunately as of today they are not and this is why I opened an issue on the openshift origin project.
