The pattern for this is now worked out in manifestsPanel.js, viewer.js, and [manifestsListItem.js](https://github.com/IIIF/m2/blob/master/js/src/viewer/manifestsListItem.js.

An event is sent out by which ever object is responsible for managing the deferred AJAX request. That event, when published, is intercepted by those that need to know of it. Sometimes, depending on the sophistication of the change resulting from the request, the broadcast event will either update the host object's state machine, which update will in turn trigger an event that renders subscribed children, or, in the case of the manifestsPanel, the object subscribes directly to the deferred's resolution broadcast, which updates the manifests dict. on viewer as a side-effect, but passes only the new manifestId on the the manifestsPanel, which pushes a new manifestsListItem onto the stack, whose initialisation then handles appending and sorting itself in the list.
