The project is currently quite stable, and I use it daily when working in vim. The stuff that doesn't work currently is mode- and buffer-dependent statuslines, so you won't get e.g. the blue statusline in insert mode yet. The performance is better than the current version, and some new features has been implemented, like automatic cropping of segments for small windows. You can try it out, clone the repo and add something like this to your vimrc:

source /path/to/powerline/examples/vim/powerline.vim
