armhf support was dropped from org.freedesktop.Platform a few years ago. (I think but could be wrong that 18.08 was the last to support armhf.) By extension all GNOME and KDE runtimes derived from 19.08 or newer dropped armhf support.

Flathub has a bunch of armhf apps but they are all out of date. In effect that arch is not supported on Flathub.

arm64 on the other hand should be a more positive story. Not 100% (and some notable gaps include Firefox) but actively supported.

Tried on a fresh Ubuntu Desktop for Raspberry Pi image and while it started off happily it (predictably, given the comment from @wjt above) failed at the replacement of the Firefox snap:

To be fair, this is one thing the snapstore does better; looking at flathub I've absolutely no clue that Firefox not available for arm64. Of course, both flatpak and snap like to play "that package doesn't exist!" when queried from an arch without a build. Still, while it's useful to see what archs are available, it's scant comfort when plenty of stuff is only packaged for amd64 ("but some of those upstreams are only available for amd64!"; every single one either has an arm64 deb, or an arm64 build for Apple's silicon on MacOS).</rant>

Ahh, apparently flatpak is slightly different to snap. Both claim "this doesn't exist!" when attempting to install a package without a build on some-arch. However, when searching for a package without a build on some-arch, snap says "this doesn't exist!" while flatpak says "this exists and you can install this version of it!". Which is ... more informative, I guess, if ultimately equally frustrating? :)

@waveform80 thanks for testing that!
If you run unsnap check (after git pull as I just updated it to not exit on fail) - what does the output look like on a Pi? I imagine it will return a whole bunch of missing flatpaks (and snaps in fact).

Hmm, not sure how much I believe the output of this. It claims there's an absolute shed-load of missing arm64 snaps (no surprises there), but that the equivalent arm64 flatpak's do exist when I already know several of them (e.g. firefox, discord, skype, slack, pycharm) definitely don't. Anyway, here's the output:

check.log

Amusing side note: I did learn that while firefox doesn't have an arm64 flatpak ... thunderbird does :)

FYI the beta Flathub site shows which archs are available per package.

Oh, that's much nicer; and with potential for changelogs!

It occurs to me though that, given the generally dire state of non-amd64 packaging in these new formats, what I really want to see (from both flathub and snapstore) is: on each package's page, a list of all the supported architectures and a nice, big, red ❌ next to each one that package doesn't support. Just a nice little psychological nudge to the packagers ;)

Hmmm, might go filing some bugs later ...
