Copy/paste from Excel to browser seems broken in Safari and only works when the cell is in edit-mode in Chrome. Copy/paste from browser to Excel seems fine on Chrome/FF/Safari. Investigating.

The 'onpaste' implementation is not standard across browsers and will not become standard for a while. It is not recommended for production use.

In Firefox, the onPaste event will be triggered whenever a paste is done whether the table has focus or a child element has focus. In Chrome, it will only trigger if the child input has focus.
