I see the need for customization, but I'm a little hesitant to add an official parameter for such a narrow use case. Originally I intended for this helper to specialize in removing the need to type out the simplest <a> tag in 90% of cases. If the tag got too complicated, I wanted to force the user to fall back to writing it themselves.
There hasn't been a large number of ideas for more helpers yet, but if there are 3 or more that could be helpful (like the modifcation you suggest), then I would be okay with adding a secondary helpers module for specialized uses, and then import them all into the main helpers file.
I won't close this, so that it stays on the radar, but I'll categorize it for the future.
