Yeah, if you specify the full path of the source, you'll need to also specify the full path of the destination. Since s3 isn't the same as a file system, it's not possible to check the destination to see if it's a directory first, and then append the source file name to it. I have to assume that the destination is a full path.
So using your first example, this should work:
