Can you post a log? I've just built the image again and found no problems.

curl: (60) SSL certificate problem: unable to get local issuer certificate
More details here: http://curl.haxx.se/docs/sslcerts.html

curl performs SSL certificate verification by default, using a "bundle"
 of Certificate Authority (CA) public keys (CA certs). If the default
 bundle file isn't adequate, you can specify an alternate file
 using the --cacert option.
If this HTTPS server uses a certificate signed by a CA represented in
 the bundle, the certificate verification probably failed due to a
 problem with the certificate (it might be expired, or the name might
 not match the domain name in the URL).
If you'd like to turn off curl's verification of the certificate, use
 the -k (or --insecure) option.
2014/05/12 20:06:35 The command [/bin/sh -c curl -L -o /usr/local/bin/pipework https://raw.github.com/jpetazzo/pipework/master/pipework] returned a non-zero code: 60

ca-certificates packages no installed. I guest on trusty nobody depends of it. We must install manually.

OK, I see. It's not a problem with the baseimage and I think it's good behaviour if it doesn't install it. I, myself, install ca-certificates ONLY on the images that I need them. For example on my php5-fpm image
