Apple only stores non-personally identifiable data on their servers.
https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT207056 & https://www.apple.com/privacy/

Waze does provides a download of personal data: https://support.google.com/waze/answer/9002354?hl=en
I couldn't find more current market share data than 2018, but waze had more market share than apple maps at that time.

No public api for sure for that, there's something as private... but app will be rejected by reviewers.
One option can be using, as a starter point, the Visits Location

Is it about collecting datasets?

@digs1998 - The Android version of the app had the ability to download google location history data, so that a new user could import location history data from before they installed the application. (this feature was complicated to use, and has been omitted from the currently released versions of the app).

@summetj won't this be a privacy issue for the users?

@summetj won't this be a privacy issue for the users?

The user must choose to download their Google Location History (if they have not previously disabled it from Google's privacy dashboard). So any user who does not want to do this simply does not push the button, log in to google, etc....

This is a feature that allows users to have MORE location history than the app would be able to track (past history before app install). Presumably if a user installs our app they DO want to track their location history, but if for some reason they only want to track the location history from the point of install they simply do not do the optional google location history download step.

(also, this feature has not yet been re-introduced into the app)

Asking for data that was collected about me is not a privacy issue. That data was already collected -- the question of privacy has been answered before we existed. Once it is back in my hands, it is back in my control and any further sharing is in my hands -- just like with data collected by a GPS.

So no, I don't see that this is a privacy issue at all.
