Indeed, this needs to be fixed too. Where is that icon rendered? I can take a look at it

It looks like it is in background.js. The drawIcon() function is what calls drawProgressSpinner(). It might be as simple as adding drawArrow() outside the if statements in drawIcon().

I haven't encountered any of those other badge states in my use yet, so I am not sure how they look.

Oh, I see why the icon isn't there. There is supposed to be the time left above the progress bar. It just has poor contrast and it looks small.

drawIcon() and some of its "children functions" probably could use a rewrite. The time left might be useful to keep. Here is what Opera does on starting a download:

It removes the "tray" and converts that to the progress bar.

ah. the upstream extension, though, does show the progress bar like that... (except there was no tray to begin with)
