Yes I've found a way of making it work by combining proper packages.
so that my package.json is like this:
[...]
"ng2-youtube-player": "0.0.3",
[...]
},
"devDependencies": {
"@ionic/app-scripts": "^2.1.3",
"@types/youtube": "0.0.29",
"typescript": "2.3.4"
},

I think you need to install a plugin which supports playing YouTube in
Ionic.
