regarding sorting ... I was not talking about sorting the items in a list but rather sorting the list of lists

regarding the cleanup issue ... here's what I do

• I stop the App on all 3 devices
• I start the app on my iPad
• I go to the lists and delete one "duplicate" list (not just an item, the entire list)
• I can see the file disappearing from the iCloud folder (on the iPad as well as on the iPhone)
• I start the app on my iPhone
• the previously deleted list reappears (and the file on iCloud as well)

at first it looks like separate files were created in the iCloud folder for each device and list (not unexpected)

The first synchronization will create copies of files if they exists on other devices. This is a known limitation that we accepted during implementation. It will be fixed by the next item.

it would have been nice to have a feature to merge lists with the same name and de-duplicate the entries (select which ones to process)

This is planned.

I'm now trying to cleanup manually but I'm failing as when I delete a list on one device or in the iCloud folder and start the app on one of the other devices, the list/file comes back so all cleanup is lost

I can't repro. Could you please provide more detailed instructions how to reproduce this issue?
