If we can get the version number like this one found in the
doc: v1.0.4-14-g2414721 it's great
This way we could have the latest applied tag plus an abbreviation of the
checksum of the latest commit applied.
We could update a version.txt file and then show it somewhere in the cockpit

Other than the folks who are checking github, I'd be surprised if any two people are running the same combination of software: node & arduino combo. All of the kickstarter kits needed to update the arduino code upon receipt. Maybe this is a dumb question, but how do we visualize the version? By date?

See my dupe post #86. I think we need more than just a date, because we should plan for the eventuality where there are multiple Cape hardware types (say, Arduino Uno, Mega, or Due), and also multiple code trees (so that people can play with different Arduino feature sets). The versioning number should be able to sort all this out.
