Could you explain in more detail your proposal. Now displayProjection property can be set inside controls, but if the map has a displayProjection and the control doesn't, then value of displayProjection for controls gets from map.displayProjection.

Falling back settings to the Map object adds a level of API indirection that's totally useless in this case - you'd be reducing 3 repetitions down to 1, when you could easily just use a variable.
Alongside this, 'displayProjection' sounds like it does something useful - like it goes along with map.projection. It doesn't, and if it wants to be renamed projectToStringInControls or something more descriptive and less important sounding, that'd be great.
