Anybody want to point me to the function or line where the leak is suspected to occur?

I'll try to mock up a test.

This allows one to test, via:

testtex --getimagespec --iters 10
testtex --getimagespec --iters 1000000

No difference in memory stats. (Definitely takes longer, so I do think it's working as intended.)

I'll try to get more info on this end. Sorry if it's a red herring.

This might be user error. I can't replicate the problem. My co-worker was
using the Google perftools heap analyzer, and there's some confusion about
how it tracks STL container allocations. Sorry for wasting your time!
