Issue is cause by improperly calling the Swing FileChooser within JavaFX thread.
The SwingFileChooser must run in Swing EventDispatchThread.
Also updating the selection model must be done in JavaFX thread.
This probably should be handled in DirChooser classes so that the FileChooserModel must not care.

Issue with SwingFileChooser solved in c363fe1.
Still open:
- FXFileChooser started from an FX Stage fails to open FXDirectoryChooser.

FXDirChooser failed to open as the Path given contained an empty string. There is now a check which in case of null or empty path provides the location "./".
Issue solved with 3bcc017.
