The spreadsheet is here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AgWnIWeQjA0AdFZlTnlKbTdQbDFHMVpROG9FUldXcVE#gid=11

I think this was tackled to some extent by somebody carefully checking and deleting some entries, however they probably got it wrong in some cases (I suspect there were probably still some events in that spreadsheet which actually happened the previous year)

So to be a bit more intelligent about it this time around, before anyone even starts to talk about Open Data Day 2015 (So now would be a good time) someone should either...

  • clearly label this spreadsheet as old, create a new empty spreadsheet for 2015 events, and make sure any links inviting people to add their event are pointing that this new spreadsheet (I'll leave it as an open question whether the map code should point at this, or keep showing the previous years events for the moment)

Or....

  • Add year column on the left of the spreadsheet, and label all existing entries as "2014".

The second option seems easier. It may mean code needs a minor tweak in the extraction logic for the map. This also paves the way for a bonus feature: show "previous years events" as a different coloured marker.

I see the spreadsheet was reorganised with different sheets for each year. That works 👍
