Game Map

The map should be critical for Harold's transportation. Should have locations for each dungeon.

HUD functionality

Self-explanatory. HUD needs to have functions for:

  • Displaying health and stamina
  • Displaying NPC dialog
  • Inventory? Will need to find item assets and create an item management system

The HUD itself will also manage health and stamina itself, having it's own tick script for modulated updates.

NPCs

If there's enough time, there should be NPCs around the village that offer items and services such as transportation, swords, and health boosts. Just need to find some decent sprites.

Sprites for intro cutscene & player

Sprites need to be made for:

  • Intro cutscene castle background (top-down view of a castle; the lower-end of the background should have the entrance/door and the top should have the king's throne) [512 by 800-1024 pixels]
  • Map showing the kingdoms Harold needs to conquer/recover jewels from [400 by 400 pixels]
  • Harold sprites w/ idle, attack, and walk animations [around 30 by 80 pixels]
  • King sprites (can just be the top of his head and his arms on the throne, can be added into the background)

Main HUD Interface

HUD will be at the bottom of the players screen and will have various tabs including

  • Stats (health, strength, etc)
  • Inventory (maybe just show gems)
  • NPC Interaction text

It should be a rectangular box of around 300 x 100. Border and foreground will be velvet-red.

Enemy AI and Pathfinding

Will most likely be a path that will diverge once the player is detected in a certain radius. All enemies only have a single attack that increases in damage depending on which dungeon they are in. Enemies also need their own animation and health systems.

Main menu

Main menu should be fairly simple, must consist of:

  • Begin/Play button
  • Help button
  • Credits button

Let's not make it as bad as my past GameMaker main menus?

First cutscene

With the cutscene framework finished, this should be no problem. Cutscene should go as follows:

  • Harold enters castle (slowly)
  • King & queen (still need sprites for) tell Harold his quest
  • Harold walks out and is sent to the village.

Enemy and boss sprite sheets

Probably the most difficult part of the project; needs to fit the style of Harold and have adequate animations:
