I take this back, it finally succeeded after quite a while, so I think it's just a matter of it being slow

To be precise, it took about 6 minutes when I timed a second run:
$ time sbtix-gen
...
real 6m8.719s
user 1m36.290s
sys 4m33.582sIs it supposed to take that long?
