The question is: do you need to know how much time these checklists items spend from their creation to the moment they are converted into cards?
Or I didn't quite get your question. If so, let me know 😄

IMO that's ok to start monitoring the work when tasks actually are cards. Keeping a large backlog of "cards-to-be" in checklist sounds like an "Icebox" to me: things that we might do later, but we're not sure yet.

If this is not the case and those are actual cards to be done, then I don't understand why there are not cards in the beginning. Thus, this would seem to be a too specific to be handled in a generic library − but a good candidate for a fork you can customize to address your specificities.

But I'd first go and check "why are we doing that" − the root cause − and wonder if there might be another "standard" way to address the need − e.g. there are power-ups to link parent-children cards if the need is to keep track of a feature-related bunch of cards.
