Android 4.1.2 backup extracting error "Given Final block not properly padded" about android-backup-extractor HOT 6 CLOSED

Not sure why you think this is related to #7, it only concerns Android 4.4. I don't control the sourceforge page, contact the authors to have the JAR updated.

BadPaddingException can be caused by a number of things, but it's usually a wrong password. Not much I can do about it, try restoring on a device to verify the password is really correct.

thanks for the information
unfortunately the original device isn't available anymore (broken) therefore i wanted to extract the files in order to use them.

as long as the android version is the same, can i restore it on another device, without damaging the device? (original: samsung galaxy s2, new: galaxy s3)

The password is correct, since i noted it on paper, next time i won't encrypt the save, would save me a lot of trouble

Restoring on another device shouldn't damage it, backups don't contain any device specific system settings. Another possibility is that Samsung changed something in their implementation and that is why the tool doesn't work as expected.

I have one question though:

it doesn't damage anything, even if the save contains system apps?
I went for the "backup all with system apps" option, in order to nearly make a clone, so i wouldn't have to download or reinstall any system apps?

System apps are part of the system image, there is not need to download anything. I totally forgot about this option, but, yes, If you restore older versions of system apps over the newer ones you might damage something, so better not do it.
