It should rahter use the updated curl-versions.

vulnerabilities / security problems : there's a reason curl abandoned those older versions.
I'd recommend installing it, runing the app that needs it, then removing it.
You could also try to contact the creator of the application and ask them for an uptodate version.

Would you mind explaining again how you fixed your problem? I am getting the same error, however, if I install the package and run the miner as you suggested I get the error:

I start my mining script with the environment variable:
env "LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libcurl.so.4.0.0" ./mine.sh
Did you install CUDA or OpenCl since no card can be found?

What exactly do you mean by install CUDA? I am sorry I just started using Linux a couple days ago, the Windows habits die hard.

Are you using an AMD or NVIDIA graphics card? CUDA is NVIDIAs proprietary library.
