Installing the spec at the npm
install is a different issue. In fact, I think it would be very convenient for Jupyter users to do so. Local and global installs should be treated differently, though.
Currently, Jupyter spawns the IJavascript kernel by running:
/path/to/kernel.js working_folder connection_file [--protocol=5.0]
What I was thinking is to change kernel.js
so that it's run like this:
/path/to/kernel.js connection_file [--working-folder=/path/to/working/folder] [--protocol=5.0]
and ensure that if the flag --working-folder
isn't set, then the working folder defaults to process.cwd()
.
I haven't started working on this issue. If you want to give it a go, please read about the license and the coding guidelines in CONTRIBUTING.md and go ahead.
If you need any help, clarification or find any problems, please, let me know here.

@jkroso I'm planning to work on this. Please, give me a shout if you've already worked on it.
