Could you be more specific? What's already possible is the iCal output that can be used to import events into your Google calendar (and probably Outlook, too).

Do you mean using the ical.php file, writing my own one which wraps or is formatted to output a ics or google cal compatible link ?

Yes, just use the calendar-ical snippet and the calendar will be printed in iCal format. You can even use content representations for this. So /events displays a HTML page that can be read by your site's visitors and /events.ics displays the calendar in iCal format that can be read by Google or Outlook.
