I'm not sure what you are expecting to happen, but if there is a connection error, the connect() callback will fire with the error as the first argument. This was not working properly in previous versions, so you might be coming from such a version.

I'll try to keep a better changelog in the future.

I found the problem, no error is reported when connection authentication is bad... it always executes the connect method callback, neither reports the error registering the error event on the client object...

Yes. The first argument of the connect callback will be the error object if an error occurred. Let me know if that works for you.
