At transloadit we're using 1 persistent connection that stays up the entire time. However, you also use one connection for each query, which would make sense if you are trying to achieve higher concurrency (1 connection is limited to 1 query at a time).

The behavior of calling connect() multiple times is not defined.

There is a client.connected property that you can use to connect just in time. Generally I think it makes more sense to connect when the server starts up.

Yeah I've been connecting when the server starts up and everything has been working fine, but this is in a development environment where it is just me, and was wondering if you had any insight. The fact that that is the way transloadit does it is very encouraging!
