I think it is confusing when they all load on top of each other but once you've moved it round it makes a bit more sense.
Some possible solutions:
- It might help to offset the centring of the map from the current position when the app first opens, even just a little bit it would help make a division between the two elements.
- In a similar vein jiggling the location dot around a little bit when it first loads might make it more obvious that it is your location, I'm sure some other map apps must do this deliberately as it seems to happen every time.
- Lose the crosshair and just have the pin from the start. (This could be combined with the other two). Once you get to the confirm location stage we would have to lose the two buttons and have a single button "confirm location" whose text could change to "reposition here" if you drag the map. I tried a version with a second pin like we have at the moment with the cross hair and the pin but it was too confusing.
